The State Seaport Advisory Council Approves Reimburstment to Town for the Removal of the F/V Miss China in Nantucket

State Representative Tim Madden and State Senator Dan Wolf announced today approval for reimbursement funding of $24,000 by the Seaport Advisory Council to the Town of Nantucket to support finances used for the removal of F/V Miss China in Nantucket. In January, the F/V Miss China was towed to the Port of New Bedford, a disposition area for salvage and scrap at the expense of the Town, which will now be reimbursed by the State.

“We should be proud that the Town took quick action to remove this navigational hazard from our Harbor” said Representative Madden. I appreciate the State’s responsiveness with this issue, and would like to thank Lieutenant Governor Murray’s Office for expediting it. I will be working with the Lt. Governor’s Office in order to make sure that in the future the owners of the vessels are held financially accountable. It should not be the Town’s or the State’s responsibility. Additionally, I would like to commend Dave Fronzuto and Sheila Lucy for all their efforts and seeing this issue through.”

“This is an excellent example of local, regional, state and federal government working together to solve a pressing problem,” said Cape and Islands State Senator Dan Wolf. “An environmental hazard was removed, navigation was protected, and timely reimbursement for the coordinated effort has now come forward.”
